Ndifreke Effiong Shoot Olympic Eagles To African U 23 Championship

Akwa United prolific striker Ndifreke Effiong capped a superlative performance with two wonderful goals for Nigeria Under 23 team, as they thrash Sudan U-23 team 5-0 to qualify 5-1 on aggregate, for the Africa U-23 tournament billed for Egypt, and will serve as the qualifying series for the men's football event at next year's Olympic Games in Tokoyo.


Ndifreke scored Nigeria's second goal of the game in the 27th minute after Taiwo Awoniyi opened scoring in the 10th minute. The Akwa United hit man got his second goal of the game at the stroke of half time as the Olympic Eagles went into the break with a healthy 3-0 lead.

Nigeria completed the rout in the second stanza  with goals from Sunday Falaye and Ibrahim Sunusi in the 67th and 71st minute securing the big win over the Sudanese who managed a 1-0 win against Coach Imama's men last weekend in Sudan.

Ndifreke Effiong who played the entire duration of the match at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba was also in action last weekend when they suffered a narrow defeat away from home.

Ndifreke Effiong joined the Promise Keepers last season from Abia Warriors and scored eight goals in all competitions for the two-time Federation cup champions.
